Whether you know it or not people are judging you and forming decisions about you within the first thirty seconds of the time that they meet you. People want to work with people that they like! So, if you’re in the corner at an event with a non-pleasant demeanor, it is less likely that you will be approached.  Here are the top skills that you need to be able to sell yourself: persistence, confidence, and knowledgeable.  Remember, it only takes one “Yes!”

What is a pitch? Simply put, a pitch is just a presentation. There’s no real, set definition but it’s just a sales presentation where your goal is, ultimately, to seal the deal and if not, it’s to get someone interested who will want to call you back and work with you, buy your product or invest in whatever you’re trying to get them to invest in. So, that’s your ultimate goal. 

First, you need to know the audience or person you’re pitching to. Be sure you are knowledgeable about the person you’re pitching to so that you know and understand their expertise.  Here’s the first thing you want to do when you make a pitch!  It is important to understand what you’re trying to sell. Is it a product? Is that a service? What is it, in sixty seconds? You have to be able to narrow your pitch down in really sixty seconds or less! It sounds cliché but, it’s doable and you can do it! You can tell somebody what you want in sixty seconds. Be sure you can identify the problem you’re trying to solve.

There is an art to the pitch.  Are you the kind of person who wants to make a pitch by telling a heart-felt story? Or, are you the kind of person that’s going to make a pitch by educating someone or by providing someone with an insightful tip? Or what about a startling statistic to grab someone’s attention?

Every pitch has to be uniquely tailored to the person giving the pitch because if it’s not genuine and it’s not authentic, it’s going to seem like you staged it. And, of course, you’re going to practice your pitch but you want to make sure that it’s genuine and authentic to you!

So, once you determine what the product is that you’re trying to sell and once you determine what the problem is that you’re trying to solve, then you want to discuss what the solution is!

1. Here’s the product.
2. What’s the problem?
3. What’s the solution?

Value is critical. What is going to be the value of this product and how did you determine the value? Are you basing it off of sells? Are you basing it off of how much it costs to make it?
